The watery environment has always fascinated me.
As a child I spent innumerable hours following small streams, imagining myself a fearless explorer
of undiscovered and uncharted territory. Those early long and close observations fostered a
lifelong appreciation of wetland places, so obviously permeated by a quietly creative and mystical
presence. These paintings have been coming from my imagination and have reference to
exploration and journey. I sometimes use reference photos but mostly the compositions evolve and
are discovered as I am painting.
As I paint I retrieve images from my mental visual memory bank and use that information
to create a composition.
I appreciate the muted, tonalist look which I often find in nature.
